 Sunrise Aviation Announces:

Expansion of Facilities at Ormond Beach Municipal Airport (KOMN)

Sunrise_Aviation_Flight_Training_BaseOrmond Beach, Florida – November 4, 2009 – The City of Ormond Beach City Commission on November 3rd approved a lease agreement with Sunrise Aviation, one of the primary tenants at Ormond Beach Municipal Airport (KOMN), to construct a hangar facility at that airport.

The new 12,000 sq. ft. hangar and office building will be built on approximately one acre of land leased from the city.  The beginning term of the lease is for 30 years but may be extended in two increments of 10 years each.

The use of the new hangar will allow Sunrise Aviation to consolidate some of their activities in other facilities while still enabling expansion into new business ventures.  According to Devon Dorato, President of Sunrise Aviation, “this new hangar and office building will allow Sunrise to service new corporate clients in the turbo-prop market.”

The hangar project is the second new lease Sunrise Aviation has acquired this year from the City of Ormond Beach.  In July 2009, the City agreed to lease Sunrise Aviation nearly ½ acre of land at the Ormond Beach Municipal Airport for the construction of a new fuel farm.  Construction of that fuel facility is scheduled to begin within the next few months with completion estimated by the middle of 2010.    Dorato remarked, “the new fuel farm lease will not only allow us to expand our services for delivery of Avgas but also allow us to store and deliver more Jet A fuel for our corporate clients.”

Sunrise Aviation currently utilizes three large hangars at the airport most with attached offices.  The main FBO building encompasses 9,000 sq. ft. of hangar and office space and has been extensively renovated since the current owners acquired the business in 2005.  Sunrise Aviation, the only full-service FBO at KOMN, also utilizes a 9,600 sq. ft. corporate hangar and a 6,000 sq. ft. hangar and office facility used for corporate maintenance and advanced flight training.

Sunrise Aviation is part of a joint venture that leases 33 T-hangars to aircraft owners.  Those T-hangars are currently being renovated and will be offered for occupancy soon.

Sunrise Aviation owns 38 aircraft for rental and flight training.  The newest additions to Sunrise Aviation’s fleet include the glass cockpit Cirrus SR-20 and Cessna 172 SP with G-1000 avionics.

The amount of flight training conducted at Sunrise Aviation has expanded over the past few years.  Today, students from Asia and the Gulf States keep the Sunrise Aviation fleet especially busy.  Dorato recently remarked, “our new and renovated facilities will help us expand our flight training options for not only our international students but also the domestic and local clientele.  We are aggressively seeking new aircraft and training options to meet the changing needs of the American flight training market.”

Sunrise Aviation was founded in 1983.  They provide maintenance, parts, flight training, fuel and additional services to local and transient pilots at Ormond Beach Municipal Airport.  They can be found on the internet at www.flysunriseaviation.com.
